Becoming a Change Maker: My Journey on the Executive MBA

07 August 2025

Executive MBA participant Ayaz Damani shares how the programme has aligned with his professional goals and reflects on his highlights. From studying the Healthcare specialism and attending an international elective in San Francisco, to joining the first WBS Career Trek in Dubai and utilising his dissertation to explore innovation in primary care, Ayaz’s journey has been inspiring and transformative.

I was honoured to receive the Change Maker Scholarship as part of my application for the Executive MBA at Warwick Business School (WBS). As a frontline NHS GP, I’ve seen first-hand the urgent need for transformation in healthcare. The Executive MBA at WBS stood out not only because of its global reputation, but because it offered a healthcare specialism that aligned closely with my professional goals.

Blending business with healthcare

Warwick’s combination of core business modules with health-focused electives such as Strategic Leadership for the Healthcare Industry and Global Challenges for the Public Sector has provided a dynamic and relevant learning experience. My dissertation explores innovation in primary care, and the insights I’ve gained through discussions with faculty and peers have been instrumental in shaping my thinking and approach.

Learning from a diverse global cohort

What has made the experience even more valuable is the people. The diversity of the cohort, drawn from sectors including tech, finance, government, and beyond, has created an environment rich in shared learning. Hearing how others approach challenges in their industries has given me a broader perspective and helped me apply new ideas to the healthcare context.

Experiencing innovation firsthand in San Francisco

A highlight for me was the Entrepreneurial Finance module in San Francisco. With healthcare innovation more vital than ever, understanding how ventures are funded and scaled was incredibly valuable. The chance to hear directly from investors and founders added depth and practicality that went far beyond theory.

Global exposure through the Dubai Career Trek

Most recently, I had the opportunity to join the first WBS Career Trek in Dubai, following a competitive selection process. It was an exceptional experience. Engaging with organisations such as Emirates and Dubai Holding brought fresh insight into how talent, innovation, and strategic ambition come together in one of the world’s most forward-thinking regions.

A transformational journey

The Healthcare Specialism within the MBA is incredibly relevant in today’s fast-changing world. It equips individuals to think critically, challenge assumptions, and step confidently into leadership roles. For me, it has been one of the most impactful and enlightening experiences of my career. I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a rich, diverse learning environment where students bring a wide range of perspectives and real-world experience. With an engaged global alumni network and a collaborative ethos, the Executive MBA at Warwick Business School stands out as a truly world-class programme.
