My review of the Sports and Wellness Hub

19 May 2025

As a student, it is important to strike a balance between studies and hobbies. The Sports and Wellness Hub is just a short distance away, so it is a privilege to utilise the excellent facilities and opportunities to stay active and unwind.

This is my review of the Sports and Wellness Hub:

Diverse Range of Activities

One of the most impressive aspects of the hub is the amount of variation of activities available. There is something for everyone, regardless of your interest, be it sports, or activities to unwind.

In terms of sports, the sports hub offers facilities including a gymnasium, swimming pools, court games and much more. On the other hand, there are regular yoga, Pilates, and self-defence classes for those who are more wellness-oriented. With sports and wellness all under one roof, the hub really does live up to its name.
I have tried Pilates, squash and swimming through the ‘Rock-Up’ sessions, and I really enjoyed them. They are beginner friendly and suitable for those who want to explore new things. Offered free to students and staff, the sessions provide a safe space that makes trying new things much less intimidating.

Excellent and Complete Facilities

The quality of the facilities at the sports hub is top-notch. For example, the climbing walls are designed to cater to all skill levels, including Olympic level! Not to forget, safety measures are their top priority. As someone relatively new to climbing, I found the staff to be really helpful. They gave clear safety instructions and guided me through every step patiently.

Additionally, the hub is also family-friendly, accommodating all age levels, including children and the elderly. For example, the kid-friendly swimming pool shows that the hub is thinking about families too. Families can spend quality time together in comfort and safety thanks to the facilities' family-friendly layout.
Not just that, but what stands out to me about the hub is its cleanliness. The changing rooms are spotless, well-equipped, and maintained continuously. These little things may seem small, but actually enhance my overall experience there.

Easy Booking System

Managing bookings has been surprisingly easy. The ‘UoW Sport’ mobile app is intuitive and user-friendly, allowing users to quickly book slots for different activities or classes. This app also contains every piece of information about the hub, for example, booking details, timetable, news and information. As a busy student, convenience like this makes a difference and ensures I can plan my day accordingly.

Friendly and Helpful Staff

From the moment you walk in, the staff make you feel welcome. They are always friendly and ready to help with any enquiries. This supportive environment plays a big role in encouraging newcomers to participate and try new things too.

Minor Drawbacks

Despite its many strengths, it has a few minor drawbacks to be aware of.  For example , the walk to the Hub can feel quite long, and since the pathway is not covered with a roof, it may be less convenient during rainy days or extreme weather.

Another thing to consider is the cost. Arguably, activities and memberships at the hub are on the more expensive side compared to some other local options. However, I personally believe it’s worth the investment, considering the quality of experience gained.

Final Thoughts

All in all, the Sports and Wellness Hub is an awesome place to stay active, pick up a new hobby, or escape the busyness of student life. If you haven't checked it out yet, I strongly recommend giving it a try. You might just find your new favourite activity!
