Our Daily Routines at WBS – Little Habits That Keep Us Grounded

03 July 2025

Life at WBS can get pretty intense at times. Between lectures, group work, job applications, and trying to maintain some kind of social life, it's easy to feel a bit overwhelmed. But among the busyness, many students find their rhythm through small, personal routines that help them stay grounded and catch their breath when things get chaotic.

In this blog, two EDI Ambassador students (a postgraduate and an undergraduate) share the everyday practices that help them stay balanced and connected during the busiest times of university life.

Most mornings, I start my day with a glass of cold juice or a warm cup of tea. (FYI: I’ve never been much of a coffee person haha.) I take about ten minutes to just sit and do some stretching in silence before the day begins, without checking my phone or emails. That small pause helps me feel more settled before everything kicks off.

A couple of times a week, I play squash at the Sports Hub with friends or go to Pilates class. It’s not just about staying active. For me, it’s a reset button. No matter how packed my schedule is, that 1 hour on the court gives me the space to breathe and clear my mind.

When the weather’s nice, I love working outside on the WBS terrace or near the lake that’s just in front of my accommodation. There’s something really peaceful about sitting with my laptop while ducks wander nearby and the sun hits the water. It turns even my tasks into something more enjoyable.

I also like taking walks around campus with music. Just noticing what’s around me, feeling the breeze, and occasionally running into friends helps me reconnect with the present and remember that I’m part of a community. If you live on campus, taking a walk to Tesco can be also a great way to clear your head for a bit!

These little things might seem minor, but they’ve become anchors in my routine. I really encourage anyone to find their own small rituals, something that helps you feel calm, connected, and just a little more like yourself!

I wouldn’t say I have a strict routine, but I’ve found a few habits that really help me stay grounded during the uni rush. Exercise is one of them, whether it’s hitting the gym, playing sports, going for a run around Leamington, or spending time at polo practice, movement helps me stay balanced both physically and mentally.

Living in Leamington Spa, I spend a lot of my downtime away from campus. Walks are a simple thing that make a big difference. Sometimes I’ll head out with no real plan, just music in my ears and time to think. Other times, it’s more about getting outside with friends. Some of my favourite places are Jephson Gardens and the Pump Room Gardens (bandstand park). These are great spots to take a walk, relax, or just sit with friends for a while. I love how full of life they are: swans, ducks, geese on the lake, squirrels darting around, and of course, all the dogs being walked. Also, being around horses regularly is something special I get to do because of the sport I play. It sounds simple, but being around animals and green space helps me reset. There’s something about watching them go about their day that makes mine feel a little lighter.

I think balance looks different for everyone. For me, it’s not about a rigid routine, but about staying connected to movement, nature, people and letting those things steady me when everything else feels like a lot.
