Data has become one of the most important resources to an organisation. Discover how you can unlock the power of data within your organisation, to improve your decision-making and develop insightful managerial advice.

This Postgraduate Award will take a deep dive into the world of data. You will gain a broad understanding of business analytics and explore how to unlock value from data. You will learn the key principles of business analytics and explore how to use digital traces and large data sets to develop insightful managerial advice to stakeholders.

During the course, you will be encouraged to think about where your data comes from, the guidance you can obtain from that data and how you can then action this within your organisation. You will also develop an appreciation for the ethical issues surrounding data analytics in business. Throughout the course, you'll explore case studies to gain practical knowledge of how you can apply specific analytics concepts and reflect on how they can be applied to your organisation.

Duration

This Postgraduate Award will run across four days of face-to-face teaching at our London base in The Shard, with a six week window to complete your assignments.

Structure

Each day of the course focuses on concepts surrounding data: descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive.

  • Day one: Explore the business value of data, understand where data is coming from, and the impacts of ‘datafication’ on organisations
  • Day two: Explore predictive analytics and its applications and limitations. Understand the importance of the data strategy in enhancing the effectiveness of predictive analytics and implementation challenges
  • Day three: Discover natural language processing and its impact on automating cognitive tasks and decision-making in organisations. Explore business opportunities and the changing nature of work
  • Day four: Explore prescriptive analytics, where you'll learn how to use your organisation's data to effect change. Consider the legal and ethical ramifications in deploying analytics solutions

To consolidate your learning you will be asked to analyse a significant business analytics initiative at a organisation of your choice.

  • You will be able to think critically about data analytics and develop a data strategy for your organisation which identifies opportunities for how they can employ analytics for value
