Strategic Mindset of Leadership

From Doubt to Discovery: How the Strategic Mindset of Leadership programme at WBS changed my perspective.

It felt daunting… until it became one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

Just a few weeks ago, I completed a transformative learning journey through Strategic Mindset of Leadership with Warwick Business School—and I’m still reflecting on how much it’s impacted me.

Walking in with doubts

When I stepped into the first session, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Would I keep up? Would I connect with the group? Would I even belong there?
Those doubts quickly faded.

From day one, the cohort was welcoming, supportive, and full of energy. We came from different backgrounds, companies, and countries—but shared a common goal: to grow, challenge ourselves, and make a difference.

What made it powerful

The programme was rich with insight. We explored how to prepare for the unknown and embrace Open Strategy, learning to navigate ambiguity with confidence.

The trend radar sessions sharpened my foresight, while the concept of being a nightmare competitor pushed me to think boldly and creatively.

We delved into CSR and ESG, unpacking the real-world impact of responsible leadership. Discussions around culture and change were eye-opening, especially when paired with tools like polarity maps, which helped us understand the tensions leaders face and how to manage them.

But my favourite part? Discovering the paradox mindset—learning to hold opposing ideas at once, lead with nuance, and see complexity not as a barrier but as a strength.

Why it matters for business

This wasn’t just theory. These insights will help me:

  • Drive strategic thinking in operational planning using foresight tools and Open Strategy principles.
  • Embed responsible leadership by aligning decisions with CSR and ESG priorities.
  • Lead change with balance, using polarity maps and paradox thinking to manage tensions and build resilience.

Why it matters for me

Personally, this experience has:

  • Boosted my confidence in navigating complexity.
  • Expanded my perspective through diverse voices—being led by an external provider was invaluable for fresh thinking.
  • Connected me with a network of peers across industries who share a passion for impact.

The setting

And yes—the setting mattered. Learning in The Shard was more than a backdrop; it was a reminder that leadership is about reaching new heights.

The programme may be over—but the impact is just beginning.
