Biography
Sotirios is Head of the Strategy and International (SIB) group and teaches in the Masters, MBA, and Executive programmes at the Warwick Business School (WBS). He is recipient of multiple annual WBS Outstanding MBA and Masters Teacher Awards and has been involved in training for a number of organizations including IBM, E.On, UBS, CapGemini and Transport for London. Previously he worked as Junior Associate at McKinsey & Company (London), Financial Analyst at Procter & Gamble (Athens) and Credit Analyst at Eurobank EFG Bank (Athens).
His research focuses on the interface of technology and strategy in leading organizations. For the past 25 years he has been involved in the creation and expansion of the 'strategy-as-practice' perspective in the strategic management field through elected leadership positions in the Academy of Management (AOM) and the Strategic Management Society (SMS). His latest research projects focus on the social impact of AI technologies, the employment of digital strategies and Internet of Things applications in contexts such as smart cities, and studies on the strategies firms adopt to succeed in digital platform ecosystems. He is a recipient of the Strategic Management Journal Most Cited Paper for 2020-21 and 2022-23, the 2020 AOM SAP Best Student Paper award, the 2019 SMS SAP Best Conference Paper award, the 2016 Emerald Citations of Excellence award, the 2013 Journal of Management Studies Best Paper Award, the 2014 SAP IG Best Paper Award at the Academy of Management, the 2008 SMS Best Conference Paper Prize for Practice Implications & the 2010 SMS Honorable Mention of the Best Conference Paper Prize (Finland Special Conference) at the Strategic Management Society; and the 2016 SAP Interest Group & 2008 BPS Division Outstanding Reviewer Awards at the Academy of Management. He served as Chairperson for the Strategy Practice Interest Group, Chair of the judging committee for the Best Paper for Practice Implications award (BPPI), co-chair of the Executive Discoveries Series (EDS), all at the Strategic Management Society; and as PDW, Chair and officer for the SAP Interest Group at the Academy of Management. He also served as an advisory panel member (Strategy) at the Chartered Association of Business School (CABS) Academic Journal Quality Guide. He is serving as Consulting Editor of Long Range Planning (LRP), and sits in the editorial boards of the Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies and Organizational Research Methods.
