Exploring AI in practice, not just theory

It’s easy to talk about the potential of AI in education, but much harder to understand how it can shape thinking and decision-making in practice. Without the chance to test it, challenge it, and see where it falls short, it risks remaining abstract to students.

Dr Mo Moeini is experimenting with a configurable, teacher-controlled AI tool embedded within our online learning environment my.wbs. Developed and supported by our in‑house IT and Teaching and Learning Enhancement teams, the tool will be tested live for the first time in the AI for Business Leaders module, which runs in summer 2026 for students on our Global Online MBA.

The AI sits directly within the learning environment as a chatbot, but its role goes beyond answering questions. It can be configured by the teacher to respond to students’ ideas, challenge their assumptions, and adapt to their input in real time. It can also take on specific roles, such as a stakeholder who needs persuading, allowing students to test how their thinking holds up in different situations.

Alongside this, students engage with different types of AI systems, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and AI agents. This gives them direct experience of how these tools behave, where they add value, and where their limitations become clear.

Which means students are not just exposed to AI as a concept. They experience how it works in practice, where it can support decision-making, and where it needs to be questioned. They leave with a more grounded understanding of how to use AI thoughtfully and effectively in real business contexts.
