Md Arafat Bin Aziz talks about his journey since graduating from WBS.
How the WBS Alumni Careers Service helped Mageshwari land her dream role
Recent graduate Mageshwari Periasamy Vasanthi has successfully transitioned into her new role as an Actuarial Analyst at MS Amlin. We caught up with Mageshwari to chat about her journey since graduating and how the WBS Alumni CareersPlus Team has helped her along the way.
After completing her MSc Business Analytics, now MSc Business Analytics & Artificial Intelligence, Mageshwari found herself navigating the competitive job market. “I was on a job hunt for the majority of the time after I finished my course,” she shares. “But I was able to access constant support for my interview preparations through WBS Alumni Careers coach, Konstantina Dee.”
From refining her CV to mastering interview techniques, Mageshwari credits WBS CareersPlus for providing the tools and guidance she needed. “They helped me with materials to prepare for interviews, work on my CV, and practice mock interviews,” she says. “Konstantina even arranged multiple calls to discuss my preparation and gave me a mock interview that was extremely helpful in securing my job.”
One of the key skills Mageshwari developed was the STAR method, a structured way of answering interview questions that helped her present her experiences clearly and confidently. “Understanding the interviewers’ expectations and making sure I presented my answers in an organised manner made a big difference,” she explains.
Despite having no prior experience in the insurance sector, Mageshwari’s determination and the support from the Alumni Careers team helped her break into the field. “Their guidance was extremely helpful in getting a permanent role in the insurance sector,” she says.
Now, as she looks ahead to her future, Mageshwari sees herself progressing as an actuary and plans to continue leveraging WBS CareersPlus for networking, alumni events, and even mock interviews for senior roles. “I’m part of the WBS Alumni network and I’m benefitting from the resources available through their website and Teams calls. I would highly recommend it to every WBS graduate.”
Her advice to fellow alumni and recent graduates? “Do not shy away from reaching out for help. Make use of the resources available online and the guidance of the careers coach with calls and mock interviews. Stay connected!”
