My career path since completing my Master's

MSc Marketing and Strategy alum, Neha Rajesh, was kind enough to speak to us about how Warwick Business School led her on her journey towards a hugely successful career in the technology sector.

During my undergraduate studies, I loved marketing as a discipline, rooted in the idea of using creativity and an understanding of human psychology to get products and services to people when and where they need it the most.

WBS was an obvious choice for me given its consistent ranking as one of the top business schools in the world and teaching excellence.

Since graduating from WBS, I’ve spent the last 13+ years working at high-growth tech companies, leading marketing for both leader and challenger brands. I entered the world of technology with a ‘non-technical’ background, and within months I was running marketing efforts in specialised technology areas such as Semantic Modelling, Insurance Telematics and Robotic Process Automation.

Applying my Master’s degree to my tech career

In my previous role at a banking software company, I was responsible for growth marketing for cloud-native and AI-driven applications that make banking better for over a billion people worldwide. Today, I work at Google, driving the adoption of cloud computing in small and large businesses across Europe, Middle East and Africa.

When I was studying and charting my path in life, I had no idea I could build a career in technology. I was thrown into it, and I feel very lucky to work in one of the most dynamic and socially-beneficial industries on earth. I understand the barriers that women face in entering the world of work, and particularly STEM fields.

We are in the midst of a technological movement led by AI that will completely change the way people live, work and study in the near future. Being at the start of that journey is really exciting and motivating.

Over the last 10 years, I have made it my mission to open these doors for women and provide a route to technology - through mentoring, founding my own platform called WonderWoman, volunteering, providing employment opportunities and raising my voice. As I grow in my career, I wish to use every opportunity to push hard and get more opportunities, more growth and more power for women and under-represented groups everywhere.

What’s on offer at Warwick outside of studies?

The other transformative aspect of my university life was getting into volunteering. This is something I carried forward, and right after graduating I volunteered at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Over the last few years I have supported several organisations like Action Against Hunger, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Pride in London, Royal Voluntary Service and Choose Love.

My volunteering efforts took me to 10 Downing Street to meet the Prime Minister, City Hall to meet the Mayor of London and even earned me a Royal Platinum Champion Award in honour of Her Majesty the Queen and her 70 years of service in 2022.

During my time at Warwick, I immersed myself in as many activities as possible to understand the world of work, build my network, and broaden my horizons.

From careers days to economics summits, student-staff liaising and everything in between, the experience was hugely rewarding and enriching. Building a solid business foundation coupled with a problem-solving and curiosity-driven mindset is invaluable in the work I do today, and this is a muscle I built at WBS.

My advice for anyone considering an MSc at WBS would be to take advantage of all the resources you have at hand and build strong relationships with people from the very beginning. You never know who can open that door for you, or lift you up in your career.
