Best things to do in Coventry
Student life is not just about academic studies, it’s also about building memories and exploring new places. Whether you are looking for inspiration for fun activities, or simply want to discover hidden gems, here are some of my top spots in Coventry:
The Ballroom Climbing Wall
What could be better than staying healthy and making new friends within a supportive community? I recently got into bouldering just to try a new sport, but it’s been a game-changer. It has helped me build physical strength, but also improved my resilience and problem-solving skills as I try to figure out how to climb up the wall. Not to mention, it’s a great way to challenge yourself and connect with others through a common hobby! Try it out yourself with a session at The Ballroom Climbing Wall.
FarGo Village
Coventry’s very own hidden creative hub! Full of local independent shops, boutiques, and weekly events such as Jazz Jam, thrift markets, film festivalsand more. You can easily spend a whole afternoon searching through stores for a unique and quirky gift or test your teamwork and friendship in an escape room. It’s the perfect spot for those who appreciate some local culture and creativity!
Entertainment
If you’re in the mood for a little fun, Starpin is your spot! With bowling alleys, ice curling, and pool tables, it’s the perfect place for an evening out with friends. For those who prefer a more adrenaline-packed experience, GoKarting Coventry offers the ultimate race against your mates! And, if you’re into some winter fun, Planet Ice is the perfect place to go ice skating.
War Memorial Park
After a long day of lectures, or even in the mornings when I don’t have classes, I love taking a stroll through this beautiful park where I can take in some fresh air and greenery. Some of my friends also head to the affordable tennis courts for a fun and healthy way to spend time together. Every Saturday, there is even a 5km parkrun organised by volunteers – perfect for anyone looking to stick to their fitness goals. During warmer days, it’s also the ideal spot for an afternoon picnic.
Asian restaurants
You don’t need to hop on a plane to expand your taste buds – Coventry has an amazing food scene! For a warm and comforting bowl of Vietnamese noodles, ToPho is the spot. Craving sushi? Check out Asushi for fresh sushi or a hearty Korean stew. And if you’re after something sweet, Croffle Bank offers delicious, Asian-inspired snacks and café food that will satisfy your cravings.
Warwick Campus
Last but certainly not least, our very own Warwick campus, located right here in Coventry, has a tonne to offer beyond academic life.
- Warwick Arts Centre: Very conveniently located on campus, whether you’re into films, workshops, or live performances, Warwick Arts Centre has it all. There is a commercial cinema screening with student discounts, arts workshops, and even an Italian restaurant for when you want a break. You can also enjoy performances from Warwick’s very own orchestra societies!
- Sports and Wellness Hub: As someone who loves staying active, I often find myself at the climbing wall between classes or playing badminton with friends to keep things fun and balanced. Apart from the gym, swimming pools and saunas, the Sports Hub also offers a variety of fitness classes, from yoga and spinning to boxing and more. It’s a fantastic place to keep your mind and body in top shape.
