My Top 5 Attractions in the Local Area
Whether you’re looking for a dose of nature, eager to explore local history, or seeking a vibrant social spot, campus and the surrounding area have a lot to offer. Undergraduate student Panth Patel shares his favorite activities and must-see attractions.
The Lakes Around Heronbank and Lakeside
If you’re looking for a peaceful spot to unwind on campus, the lakes around Heronbank and Lakeside are unbeatable. Whether you just want to chill, clear your head, or take a break from uni stress, these lakes are the perfect escape. There are plenty of benches where you can sit back, take in the fresh air, and watch the ducks, swans, and (sometimes slightly aggressive) geese go about their day.
I’ll admit, I’m a little biased—Lakeside was my home in first year. But during exam season, when the gym felt like too much effort, I’d take long walks around the lakes instead. There’s something about the stillness of the water and the sounds of nature that makes everything feel a little lighter. If you haven’t spent time here yet, trust me, you’re missing out!
Warwick Castle
Okay, it might take a bit of effort to get there, but trust me—Warwick Castle is 100% worth it. If you’re even remotely into history (or just love a good day out), this place is unreal. You can step straight into medieval times as you explore the castle’s grand interiors, wander through its stunning gardens, and check out the interactive exhibitions. They even have live events like jousting tournaments and falconry displays, which make the whole experience feel even more immersive.
Whether you’re a history nerd or just looking for a cool adventure outside campus, Warwick Castle is a must-visit!
Leamington Spa
Just a short bus ride away, Leamington is perfect for shopping, eating out, or a change of scenery. Jephson Gardens offers a peaceful escape, while The Parade has a great mix of shops and cafes. Whether you’re grabbing brunch, exploring indie stores, or heading out to Smack or Neon for a night out, Leamington has something for everyone—making it the ideal weekend getaway from campus life!
Draycote Water
If you’re into scenic walks or just want to be by the water, Draycote Water is a hidden gem. It’s a little further out, but the huge reservoir, peaceful trails, and fresh air make it a great escape from the uni bubble. Bring a bike, go for a run, or just sit by the water and take it all in. On a sunny day, it’s the perfect spot for a picnic with friends, and if you’re into watersports, you might even catch people sailing or windsurfing on the lake.
The Warwick Arts Centre
If you’re into culture, the Warwick Arts Centre is a must-visit. Right on campus, it’s got everything from live music and theatre productions to film screenings. It’s the perfect spot for when you want a chill evening without trekking into town, and it regularly offers student discounts and events. With its cozy vibe, you can catch some seriously good performances without the hassle of long commutes—making it a super easy way to enjoy something a little more artsy after a long week of lectures.
