Coding the future: Students on the MSc Business Analytics & Artificial Intelligence course can take a specialist route to learn more about AI
Warwick Business School has revamped its world-renowned MSc Business Analytics course to include even more content on AI.
The new MSc Business Analytics & Artificial Intelligence, which will start in September 2026, will have four specialist routes, including one where students can dedicate their study to AI and the large language models that power generative AI.
The School’s MSc Business Analytics was recently ranked third in the UK and 17th in the world by higher education analysts QS, but the redesigned programme has been put together to help students acquire the skills needed as organisations use AI more and more.
Michael Mortenson, Associate Professor of Business Analytics & Data Science and Course Director, said: “We are in the midst of an AI revolution with organisations scrambling to acquire the skills and knowledge to take advantage of what is one of the biggest technological leaps in human history.
“AI is evolving rapidly and this redesigned course will address this, giving students the tools and frameworks to cut through the noise and utilise AI in a strategic and effective process.
“Every sector and organisation is being disrupted by AI and this course will equip students with the skills to be at the forefront of this emerging technology.”
While the previous curriculum included significant AI content, the new design makes it an explicit focus, with more modules devoted to AI and a specialist route in the topic.
The revamped course will have four core modules:
- Analytics Engineering, AI and Visualisation
- Analytics in Practice
- Applied Analytics Projects
- Business Statistics
Students can then take four more elective modules to specialise in four areas:
- Predictive and Prescriptive Analytics
- Artificial Intelligence
- Management Analytics
- Marketing Analytics and Technology
Alternatively, students’ optional modules can be picked from a whole host of different subjects from Deep Learning and AI Engineering and Generative AI and AI Applications, to Pricing Analytics and Fintech for Consumer Financial Services.
The new Master’s course also offers students three alternatives to the final 10,000-word research dissertation, with participants now able to do either an Analytics Portfolio, where they apply their newly acquired theories and tools to a business problem; or Business in Practice, which sees them put into teams to create a business and compete in a simulated industry; or an Internship, which would be self-sourced and not only see students apply their theoretical learnings but increase their employability.
“We believe these new routes will prove very popular with students,” said Dr Mortenson, who researches AI and Natural Language Processing models and, before moving into academia worked on data science, AI and digital transformation projects for companies such as Amazon Web Services and Vodafone.
Warwick MSc prepares students for AI careers
“They provide more options, reflect the increased diversity in our student base and prepare our graduates for future roles and destinations.
“This redesigned programme will ensure our graduates remain competitive in an increasingly data-driven and AI-centric professional landscape. In the past, graduates have gone on to work for the likes of Amazon, JLR, TikTok and EY, and we believe this revamped course will help them gain more jobs with large global organisations.
“It is an exciting and transformative time in the field of AI and as we develop the Change Makers of tomorrow, we believe the new MSc Business Analytics & Artificial Intelligence course will put our students at the vanguard of the AI age.”
