Tell us a bit about yourself, and what course you are studying.
My name is Elysia, I’m from Hong Kong and I’m studying BSc in International Management.
What attracted you to WBS? Why did you choose to study here?
I chose to study at WBS because of its strong reputation and the structure of the International Management course. In particular, the opportunity during the third year to go abroad and either work or study. That was a major factor in my decision.
What is the best thing about your degree?
The best thing about my degree was the year abroad studying in Denmark and Spain. It was an incredible experience where I connected with people from around the world and embraced new cultures and experiences.
How have you found having a personal tutor, have they helped you throughout your studies?
Having a personal tutor was helpful. She checked in with me at least once every term, and it was reassuring to know that there was someone I could reach out to if I needed advice or simply have a chat with.
What sort of support have you received from the careers team? How has that helped you?
The career support sessions with the team were helpful, especially in my interview preparation and connecting with alumni who were working in the companies I was interested in. The drop-in sessions were also quite convenient, knowing I could pop by if I had any spontaneous questions.
Have you taken part in any projects, internships or work experience so far while being a student at WBS?
I did a summer internship at Expedia in their London office. It was my first internship and was a very rewarding experience. I learned a lot from an amazing diverse team and gained insights into how a multinational company operates. A particular module Design Thinking relevant during my time there, as I applied concepts like customer personas and empathy to my work.
Are you a member of any SU clubs or societies?
I am part of Enactus Consulting and the Graphic Design and Marketing Society (GDMS). In Enactus, I gained hands-on consulting experience with companies through regular workshops and mentors. While with GDMS, the highlight was organising a marketing festival for students with the Exec team, where we got to network closely with professionals in fields ranging from telecoms to luxury marketing and personal branding.
What do you aim to do once you graduate?
I will be joining a 2-year graduate programme at Vodafone in their marketing and commercial stream, working in rotations across different business functions to find out which area suits me more.
Do you feel that your degree is preparing you for your next steps?
The network I have built from WBS, the experience from my year studying abroad and the projects I have worked on through student societies have helped me understand what I enjoy and value in a future career.
What top tip would you give to prospective undergraduate students who are deciding if WBS is the right place for them?
This is the right place to be if you want to be in a diverse environment.
What top tip would you give to a student who is about to start at WBS?
Just say yes to the new opportunities, even the ones that seem a bit intimidating! You will always learn something valuable.
