Real impact, real connections: The WBS Global Mentoring Programme

23 October 2025

Since its launch in 2009, the WBS Global Mentoring Programme's 'ripple effect' has supported and enriched the lives of over 1,400 mentees. The accredited programme partners WBS alumni with mentees seeking a purposeful, personalised, and impactful experience, aligned with their career goals and motivations. Spanning industries and borders, it’s more than mentoring, it’s intentional connection with real-world relevance.

Elissa Patrick, Global Mentoring Programme Manager tells us more:

“The programme is built around shared experience. Mentees are matched with WBS alumni who’ve walked similar paths - professionals who understand the challenges and opportunities ahead. They gain access to real-world insights and career guidance that goes beyond the classroom.”

“The programme been very helpful in setting up the foundations to be able to move towards a job that I wanted to do, by helping me highlight my goals, and what the constraints are. We learn that in the MBA too, but it is different when someone helps you apply that to your own life!”
Ruth Bauer, Mentee and MBA alum

Global reach, local impact

“With mentors based in the UK, China, India, Singapore, the UAE, Europe, and North America, geography is no barrier. Whether meeting face-to-face or connecting remotely, the relationships formed are grounded in trust, relevance, and shared ambition.”

Giving back, moving forward

“For mentors, it’s a chance to give back to WBS, sharpen their coaching skills, and gain professional development. As I reflected after attending the recent European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) Global Mentoring Conference in Florence: Mentoring, in its most traditional form, has always been about learning through observation, guidance, and shared experience. The programme continues to evolve, integrating EMCC quality benchmarks. Strategic investments in training and development ensure mentors are equipped to support mentees effectively and grow themselves in the process.”

“I have found the Business School to be a great source of next-generation talent for the companies I represent in a Non-Executive capacity.”
Paul Garman, Non-Executive Director, Mentor Champion, MBA Alum

Mentor Champions

“Our Mentor Champions are experienced alumni who advocate for mentoring and support new mentors. They offer a friendly ear, informal advice, and encouragement throughout the mentoring journey. We are very pleased to introduce our newly-announced Mentor Champions, you can read more here.

“Over the years, I have supported mentees across different industries and career stages which has enriched my own perspective and kept me connected with the global WBS community.”
Cathrin Kolb, Director, Mentor Champion, MBA Alum

What's next?

“With new collaborations on the horizon, including potential partnerships with EMCC Global, the WBS Global Mentoring Programme is poised to expand its impact even further. For alumni, it’s a chance to leave a legacy. For students and recent graduates, it’s a launchpad.

“The ripple effect of mentoring extends far beyond the individual, strengthening careers, communities, and the global WBS network. Whether you’re looking to mentor or be mentored, the WBS Global Mentoring Programme offers a structured, supported, and rewarding experience. In today’s AI-driven job market, intentional connections and a strong personal brand are what give you the edge. This is more than a programme, it’s a community that helps you stand out, stay human, and confidently position yourself for career success.”

“The WBS Mentoring Programme gave me clarity, accountability, and a trusted external perspective. It helped me progress to a Group Managing Director role and gain greater confidence in my capabilities.”
Daniele Todaro, Group Managing Director, MBA Alum
