MSc Accounting & Financial Management: What to expect
Current MSc Accounting & Financial Management student, Camila Harburger Devoto, explains her decision to pursue her MSc at Warwick Business School, and how it’s helping shape her future.
Studying at WBS has been a journey of discovering not only the world of finance, but also myself. I have always been intrigued by how boardroom decisions influence the world far beyond the walls in which they are made. Yet, choosing to pursue Accounting and Financial Management was not a straightforward path.
During my undergraduate degree in Politics and Management, I noticed something important: behind every organisational choice and policy decision lies a foundation of numbers - analyses that quietly drive strategy. This realisation sparked my desire to pursue the MSc Accounting and Financial Management at WBS.
I had already gained a solid grounding in analysis and strategy, but I wanted to complement that with the financial literacy necessary to evaluate organisational performance and long-term impact. More than anything, I wanted a course that helped me bridge theory with real-world application.
One of my favourite aspects of the programme is a dedicated module on career development, brought to life through simulations, interactive workshops, and guest speakers from a wide range of industry backgrounds.
Why study Master’s at WBS?
Studying at WBS has been an incredible experience. As an international student, learning alongside peers and faculty from across the globe has been invaluable. Beyond the classroom, WBS has offered countless opportunities to build both my personal and professional life - from societies and pop-up events to world-class career support. The guidance from CareersPlus and the School’s deep industry engagement have been essential in shaping my confidence and career direction.
Most importantly, I have learned to recognise my own value as an applicant and future professional. I now understand what makes me unique, as well as the qualities I need to continue developing.
WBS’s commitment to impact and inclusion has profoundly shaped my experience. I entered the school hoping for an environment that valued big ideas as much as technical understanding - and I found exactly that.
How do Warwick structure their Master’s courses?
My modules are taught through a mix of lectures and seminars, a structure that encourages both learning and discussion. These conversations have been some of my favourite moments in the programme. My peers and I come from different academic and professional backgrounds, creating a rich, multidisciplinary approach to every topic.
For example, in my Cost Management seminar, a peer with experience as a full-time financial analyst explained how absorption methods connect to software she had used in practice. It is in these moments - when theory meets real professional insight - that the WBS learning experience truly comes alive.
Being part of this community extends well beyond academic hours. Engaging with campus opportunities, societies, and events has been essential in creating balance and making my time at Warwick as fulfilling as possible.
Is an Accounting and Finance MSc a good platform for my career?
The MSc Accounting and Financial Management aligns perfectly with my long-term aspirations in audit and sustainable finance. I want to combine my political background with financial expertise to better understand global markets and the organisational forces that shape them.
This MSc has equipped me with the knowledge and confidence to navigate complex challenges in today’s interconnected and rapidly evolving business environment.
Studying Accounting and Financial Management at WBS has been transformative - not only academically, but also in how I see the role of finance in shaping organisations and society. If you, like me, are curious about the impact of financial insights, this programme offers the perfect space to grow, contribute, and belong.
