Why stay at WBS for a Master's?

03 March 2026

Current MSc Management student, Muhammad Bilal, and MSc Accounting & Sustainability student, Ade Badejo, reflect on progressing from undergraduate to Master's study at Warwick Business School, sharing why WBS felt like the right place to continue their academic journeys.

Muhammad: I’m currently studying MSc Management at Warwick Business School. I also completed my undergraduate degree at Warwick, so continuing my studies here felt like a natural progression rather than starting fresh somewhere else.

Ade: My name is Ade, and I’m studying MSc Accounting and Sustainability at WBS. Before this, I completed my undergraduate degree in Global Sustainable Development at the University of Warwick, which shaped my interest in sustainability and its real-world application.

Staying at Warwick

Ade: During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to take several WBS modules, and I really appreciated how they were structured. The balance between course content, assessments, and participation suited the way I learned, and that familiarity made the transition to postgraduate study feel more manageable.

Staying at Warwick also meant adjusting to fewer changes at once. I knew a Master’s would bring a higher workload and different expectations, so remaining in a teaching environment I already understood felt like the right decision.

Muhammad: Starting MSc Management honestly felt like I upgraded my whole academic life. The shift from a largely theoretical approach to something far more practical and professional was exactly what I was looking for.

The campus itself also played a big role in my decision. Warwick is green, peaceful, and centrally located, which makes day-to-day student life easier. When you’re studying a Master’s level, the environment you’re in really matters.

Choosing an MSc course

Muhammad: Management has always been the field I’m passionate about. It’s the area I genuinely understand and enjoy, and it keeps my career options open rather than restricting me to one specific path.

One of the things I value most about the MSc Management is its flexibility. There are so many module combinations, and you can personalise the course to reflect your interests or future ambitions. While the workload has definitely increased, it feels worthwhile because you’re building your own learning journey.

Ade: I chose MSc Accounting and Sustainability because it allowed me to expand my sustainability knowledge while developing stronger quantitative and technical skills. I wanted to understand how sustainability is recorded, measured, and evaluated within the financial world.

Modules such as Sustainability Reporting have been particularly valuable, helping me gain a deeper understanding of real-world reporting metrics and how organisations communicate their environmental impact.

Differences between UG and MSc at Warwick

Ade: The biggest difference is the level of independence expected from you. The pace is faster, the workload is heavier, and a lot more responsibility is placed on managing your own time effectively.

Coming from a non-finance background, I initially found the practical accounting work challenging alongside readings and asynchronous tasks. Setting structured study hours helped me adjust, and the postgraduate study hubs being open from early morning until late at night made it easier to establish a routine.

Muhammad: For me, the most noticeable change has been how interactive learning has become. At Master’s level, workshops are central, and participation is almost expected.

Discussions often feel like high-level managerial meetings, where everyone contributes ideas, challenges perspectives, and learns from real-world cases and simulations. It’s demanding, but that’s exactly the kind of academic step up I wanted.

The WBS experience

Muhammad: One of the biggest highlights has been the international trip organised by WBS. It’s fully organised and designed to give students global exposure to leading business schools. I chose Cape Town, and I’m really looking forward to experiencing it with my course mates.

WBS events have also made the experience feel more personal. Social activities like the Silent Disco for our MSc Management cohort were a great way to connect with people and feel part of a close community.

Ade: A key highlight for me is the flexibility offered in Term 3. Being able to choose between a dissertation, Business in Practice Simulation, or an internship allows you to tailor the final part of your degree to how you want to learn and develop professionally.

Future Master’s students

Ade: Give yourself time to adjust and don’t be afraid to use the facilities and support available. Postgraduate study is intense, but WBS provides an environment that helps you manage both the academic and personal demands.

Muhammad: Come in with an open mind and be ready to participate fully. The workload is challenging, but the opportunities make it worthwhile. Staying at Warwick for my Master’s was the right decision, and MSc Management has exceeded my expectations as the next step in my academic journey.
