Why the online MBA worked for me

Flexibility

Sarah: Online learning has made the MBA possible alongside a demanding full-time role in Dubai. The flexibility means I can study early in the morning, in the evenings, or at weekends, rather than having to step away from work or relocate. This has been particularly important as I work across different markets and time zones, where priorities can shift quickly.

Living in Dubai has also meant navigating the wider impact of regional instability and the war, which at times has affected travel, work patterns and my ability to plan study time with certainty. In those moments, the University has been very accommodating and flexible, giving me the reassurance that I could continue progressing without being penalised for circumstances outside my control. Being able to manage my own learning rhythm, access materials remotely and adapt my study schedule when needed has helped me stay consistent, while still balancing professional responsibilities and personal commitments.

Jermaine: The Global Online MBA has given me the flexibility to pursue further education without putting my career or family life on hold. While completing the program, I've continued to work full-time as a Director of Operations, manage a consulting firm with my wife, and remain present for our young children. I typically dedicate 15–20 hours each week to my studies, fitting coursework around these responsibilities rather than stepping away from them.

The ability to study at my own pace has been invaluable. Whether I'm leading operational initiatives, working with consulting clients, or spending quality time with my family, I can build a study routine that fits my life while continuing to make meaningful progress through the program. That flexibility has allowed me to grow professionally without sacrificing the people and responsibilities that matter most to me.

Online learning environment and innovative tech

Jermaine: My.wbs has completely changed my expectations of what online learning can be. It gives me the flexibility to access lectures, recorded sessions, learning resources, well-being support, and course materials wherever I am, provided I have an internet connection. There have been many occasions where I've continued my studies on trains or during business flights, allowing me to stay on track even with a busy travel schedule.

Sarah: If I cannot attend a live session because of work commitments or time-zone differences, I can catch up with the recording and revisit more complex topics at my own pace (which I often need to do). That ability to pause, reflect and return to content is especially valuable when balancing study with a busy professional role. It also means I can study from Dubai, while still feeling connected to Warwick Business School and the wider MBA experience.

Jermaine: One of the reasons I chose Warwick Business School was its commitment to innovation in online learning, and the experience exceeded my expectations. Technologies such as Lightboard and SmartStage are second to none and have transformed what I thought online education could be. Rather than simply watching a lecturer speak through a screen, the sessions feel interactive, engaging, and much closer to an in-person classroom experience.

SmartStage, in particular, creates an immersive learning environment where tutors can present ideas dynamically, making complex concepts easier to follow and discussions more engaging. Combined with the interactive teaching style of Warwick's faculty, the technology has kept every module fresh and stimulating. Throughout the program, I've never felt that online learning was a compromise; every module has felt engaging, and at no point has the learning experience become monotonous.

Virtual events

Jermaine: I have attended two virtual networking opportunities since starting the program, both hosted by the CareersPlus team. What stood out to me was how thoughtfully the sessions were structured. The hosts created an engaging environment with interactive prompts, smaller group discussions, and opportunities to share back with the wider group.

Networking can sometimes feel intimidating, especially in a virtual setting, but the CareersPlus team did an excellent job of putting participants at ease. Their approach helped create natural, meaningful conversations rather than forced introductions. As a result, the sessions felt personal, engaging, and valuable, allowing students to build genuine connections despite being in different locations.

Support

Jermaine: What has impressed me most is the support from the Global Online MBA team. From the outset, they've consistently reminded students that help is always available, whether that's academic guidance, well-being support, tutor assistance, or flexibility when unexpected life events arise. Knowing that this support exists has given me confidence that Warwick genuinely wants every student to succeed, even when life doesn't always go according to plan.
