Finance for Non-Finance Leaders

During this session, we will introduce you to the basics of financial reporting and the rules that guide it. Through the exploration of case studies and real-world financial statements, you will begin to demystify financial reporting and analysis and start to apply your learning to understanding your own organisation’s financial position.

The day includes a guest lecture and will conclude with a chance to get to know your cohort with food and drinks. 

During this session, you will learn how to interrogate statement of profit and loss accounts, cash flow statements and consolidated financial statements, allowing you to identify and interpret financial trends and anomalies.

You will develop an understanding of the relationship between revenue, variable costs and fixed costs (variable or marginal costing). This gives rise to the management accounting term ‘contribution’ and allows further development into breakeven analysis, budgeting and short-term decision making concepts. This will help in the development of decision making skills in the short-term.

During this session, you will gain an understanding of financial analysis approaches, enabling you to make informed and strategic financial decisions and evaluate financial health and performance effectively.

After the day’s teaching, you will have the opportunity to continue to build your professional network through a WBS hosted evening dinner in London with a guest speaker to help further reflect on what you have learnt and its application. 

During this session, you will explore cash forecasting and management, costing and profitability analysis and long-term decision making and investment appraisal. This will provide you with the tools to manage cash flows, evaluate business profitability, optimise investments for sustained business growth and drive organisational success.
