How did WBS help me prepare for my Master's at Warwick?

MSc Business & Finance student Celina Chang shares her experience of applying to Warwick Business School and how the WBS Recruitment & Admissions team helped her prepare for life at Warwick.

When I was applying for my Master’s degree, I spent a lot of time comparing different universities and trying to imagine what life would actually be like after moving to the UK. I ultimately decided to join Warwick Business School to study the MSc Business & Finance.

Looking back, one of the most helpful parts of my application journey was the support I received from the WBS Recruitment & Admissions team, particularly through the WeChat offer holder group.

Getting to know WBS before starting my Master’s

After receiving my offer, I joined the WeChat group and quickly found it much more useful than I had expected.

Each week, current WBS student ambassadors shared different aspects of life at Warwick. Some posts focused on practical topics, such as accommodation and settling into the UK, while others covered student societies, social events, academics, careers and what a typical day as a WBS student might look like.

What I appreciated most was how genuine the content felt. Rather than simply highlighting the best parts of university life, ambassadors also shared their own experiences and talked about the adjustments they had made when moving to Warwick.

For me, this helped turn Warwick from somewhere I had researched online into somewhere I could actually picture myself living and studying.

The WeChat group was also a great place to ask questions directly. Before arriving, I had lots of small questions that were difficult to find answers to online. Being able to hear from students who were already studying at WBS gave me a level of confidence that I could not get from simply reading information on a website.

Whether I wanted to know more about accommodation, course workload, student life or living in Coventry, there was always someone willing to share their experience.

I particularly appreciated that the ambassadors came from different programmes and backgrounds. Everyone had a slightly different experience to share, giving me a more realistic picture of life at WBS and helping me prepare for the transition from undergraduate study to a Master’s programme.

Connecting with the WBS community before arriving

Now that I am studying at WBS and have become a student ambassador myself, I understand even more clearly how valuable these conversations can be for prospective students.

Looking back, the WeChat group played an important role in helping me feel connected to the WBS community before I had even arrived on campus. It gave me an opportunity to ask questions, learn from current students and get a better idea of what my experience at Warwick might look like.

If you have received an offer to study at WBS, I would definitely recommend making the most of the opportunities to connect with current students. University websites can provide you with lots of useful information, but sometimes it is the informal conversations and honest experiences shared by current students that make the biggest difference.

For me, having that support made the transition to Warwick much smoother and helped me feel more confident in my decision to join WBS. Now, as a student ambassador, I hope I can provide that same reassurance and support to the next group of WBS students preparing to start their journey.
