Landing a management role at Amazon with my MSc
MSc Marketing & Strategy alum, Aimen Nadeem, shares her journey from studying at WBS, to building a career in product management.
Why choose Warwick for a Marketing Master’s?
When I was deciding where to pursue my MSc in Marketing and Strategy, Warwick Business School stood out for several reasons: impressive ranking, comprehensive module structure, and a network of trusted peers. This made it feel like a smart investment in my future. WBS didn’t just have a reputation, it delivered.
From day one, I felt I was building a strong foundation that would pay off for years to come. The School offered not only rigorous academics, but also a community of students and alumni whose insights and support were invaluable.
What’s MSc life really like at WBS?
Being part of my cohort changed everything. The curriculum blended theoretical frameworks with real-world applications, from creating a digital campaign for Primark, to tackling complex business case studies. Group projects highlighted the power of diverse perspectives, showing me first hand why collaboration across cultures and disciplines drives better solutions.
Then 2020 brought the unexpected challenge of COVID-19. One day we were analysing Uber’s business model; the next, we were navigating Zoom classrooms, stockpiling hand sanitiser and managing the uncertainty of a global pandemic. It was an intense crash course in adaptability and resilience.
Despite the challenges, I successfully completed my dissertation in collaboration with Holland & Barrett and graduated in the Dean’s top 10%. Those experiences taught me that success isn’t only about knowledge - it’s about perseverance, problem-solving, and staying focused in the face of uncertainty.
Which career paths can an MSc Marketing & Strategy lead to?
After graduating, I returned to Pakistan to continue my marketing career and eventually became Brand Manager at Haleon (formerly GSK Consumer Healthcare). But an opportunity at Amazon’s London HQ changed everything. Starting in a graduate-level role after being a manager wasn’t easy, but sometimes stepping back sets the stage for a bigger leap forward.
Three years later, I’m now a Product Manager at Amazon, helping shape the way customers around the world experience reading. My WBS experience, embracing challenges, learning to collaborate across differences, and building resilience - directly prepared me for this fast-paced, ever-evolving environment. Every day at Amazon reinforces the lessons from WBS: agility, innovation, and the value of diverse thinking.
Advice for new MSc students
Choosing WBS didn’t just advance my career; it equipped me with a mindset to thrive in uncertainty, to lead, and to grow every day. Say yes to the chaos, the challenge, and the cold rainy days - you’ll leave with more than a degree; you’ll leave with a mindset built to adapt, evolve, and lead.
