Current MSc Management of Information Systems & Digital Innovation student, Zhixin Yang, presents his experiences of his course so far.
Why study MSc Management?
MSc Management student, Peter Shaw, spoke to us about the attraction to study his MSc at Warwick Business School, his key experiences and how he’s developed throughout.
Coming from a Sports Management background, I knew I wanted to pivot towards a broader business focus, which is why I chose to pursue an MSc in Management at WBS. This course felt like the perfect bridge and WBS stood out due to its consistently high rankings in the UK and Europe, especially for the MSc Management course.
What is MSc Management at Warwick like?
I've really enjoyed the practical nature of the course and the wide variety of elective modules available. Core modules such as Performance Management of the Firm have been especially valuable, giving me a solid understanding of financial metrics and how to apply them to assess both individual companies and broader industries.
Each module blends theoretical frameworks with real-world case studies, ensuring that what we learn is not just academic, but also directly applicable to the workplace. Overall, it’s been a highly rewarding experience.
Given WBS’ strong reputation, I came in with high expectations, and so far, they’ve been met. I expected the first term to build a foundation in core business areas, followed by the opportunity to specialise in terms two and three. That’s exactly how the course has been structured.
I also had high hopes for the CareersPlus team, and they’ve been excellent. Their tailored advice, whether it’s CV support, interview preparation or assessment centre tips, has been a huge help. They also have strong links with top employers, which really adds value.
I’ve grown both personally and professionally during my time here. The emphasis on group work has helped me develop key soft skills, particularly around teamwork and collaboration. Given the diversity of the cohort, I’ve learned how to work effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds, ensuring every group member can contribute their strengths.
Academically, I’ve built strong analytical and critical thinking skills, which I know will serve me well in my future career.
A Master’s course including international study
One of the standout experiences so far has been the international trip. Students have the chance to visit top business schools such as HEC Paris or Nova SBE, and I was given the chance to go to Helsinki – which was a brilliant experience.
I got to explore Finnish culture, which I previously knew little about, and had the opportunity to discover both Helsinki and its nearby national parks. It was a perfect mix of academic learning and cultural enrichment.
I’d highly recommend anyone look into doing the MSc Management course at WBS. Although I’d particularly recommend it to students coming from a non-business background, like myself. The course provides a strong foundation from the outset, and builds your confidence quickly.
Throw yourself into every opportunity the course offers, and enjoy it! The year flies by, so make the most of the academic, professional, and social experiences available to you.
