How does the CareersPlus team help me reach my career goals following my MBA studies?

Where do you want to get to?
We have a saying within the Careers team that if you don’t take advantage of unlimited career coaching during your MBA year, then it is a lost opportunity. Rarely in your career will you have such access to careers skills workshops and a dedicated coach. Many participants who join the Full-time MBA at WBS have a clear idea about their short-term career goals; which sectors and functions they would like to work in and in which country. Many others join the MBA without a clear goal and want to use the year to explore different career options and discover different opportunities. The good news is that we are perfectly positioned to help everyone as our inclusive and free services are designed around you, the individual.
Many of you will experience a shift in interests during your MBA year. It is common to be exposed to new sectors or new roles that you have never considered before. Through our sector insights, industry treks, presentations by companies, festivals and networking events you participate in during the year your career goals may well change. This is normal. Your Career Coach will support you as you explore existing ideas and new ideas to move you towards a role that fits you and your motivation, your values and your goals.
What can I expect during my year at Warwick Business School?
The MBA is one intensive and exciting year that offers untold opportunities to focus on your career and next steps. You can expect us to support you in your short-term career goal of securing a role after your MBA. We are also committed to providing you with a career management skillset that will serve you in navigating future roles. Our series of career management and personal development workshops ensure that you are fully equipped with the skills you need to reach your full career potential: topics range from CVs and Cover Letters, to networking, client persuasion skills, interview techniques, navigating the hidden job market, working in a global environment, and many more. Enlightening and highly valuable, these workshops provide you with a set of career skills and insights you’ll use for life.
You should expect to be challenged whilst taking part in a Development Centre Day. This mock Development Centre runs in Term 2 and provides you with a valuable opportunity to test your learnings to date. There is opportunity for self-reflection and we provide robust feedback in order to help map out individual development and career action plans to work with through the remainder of your tenure with us.
Become the leader you want to be
Our unique LeadershipPlus module offers the opportunity to learn through experience, feedback and reflection about what you personally stand for as a leader, how you can manage yourself effectively, and how you can lead, manage and influence other people successfully. It really is a transformational module that will also help to inform you in the types of leadership roles that you aspire to in your future. Consider the module as learning leadership by action, and not by teaching.
Access unlimited coaching
We are very proud of our comprehensive one-to-one career, sector specialist and professional development coaching. It has been proven that the more a participant engages in one-to-one coaching, the more effective their job search is. We offer a sounding board and we share our many years of experience across a wide range of sectors, industries and countries, helping thousands of MBA participants find their ideal roles when they complete their MBA.
Support that continues after your studies have finished
Our relationship with you doesn’t end when your studies finish. All our Full-time MBA students will continue to receive careers support via our Alumni career services once you have graduated! This unique service will provide you with a lifelong partner during your professional journey. It’s a service we know our alumni greatly benefit from, both in the first few months after completing their MBA as they are engaging with competitive recruitment processes and later on, as they move on to other roles and come back to us for support and advice.
