Careers blog: How we prepare you for your next career move

29 March 2017

Utilise the careers services at Warwick Business School and University of Warwick and ensure you are ready to take advantage of future career opportunities.

Careers and Skills across the University

When you arrive here at Warwick, you will be able to take advantage of two Career support services. The main University Careers and Skills team deliver a large number of career-related events, seminars and workshops that you can get involved in. These might be particularly useful if you are not exactly sure what you want to do in the future, or want to explore some new skills or ideas.

Preparing for a career in business

We also provide a more business-specific careers service, with easy access to your dedicated career guidance team here at Warwick Business School. You will have the opportunity to meet members of the CareersPlus team early after arriving at the school, as we deliver a Careers Induction seminar in your first few days where we talk about the UK labour job market and the expectation that recruiters have of students who are at a business school. You will learn about how to access the many resources available, as well as learning about upcoming events you can attend to help you gain information and prepare for applications.

WBS career workshops

CareersPlus also provide a suite of career workshops for our Masters students, starting from thinking about what you want to do, through to different steps including how to research organisations, write effective applications, interview practice and how to be successful at assessment centres.

In the first term these workshops are mainly aimed at those students who want to apply for UK and European-based roles, as this is when the applications are open.  For those students who might be thinking of returning home to look for work, we repeat the steps again but with more of a focus of on how you can sell your WBS MSc learning experience to a recruiter and make yourself stand out during the selection process.

Strong business links

The School has an excellent Corporate Relations team with strong connections across many sectors, including banking, financial services, FMCG, technology, and professional services. The team organise many events throughout the term, which are often attended by alumni who are always keen to come back to WBS to look for new talent for their organisations.

Every year we review and enhance our offering for students to ensure that you are well placed to take advantage of career opportunities and be successful in the future.
