Finance course insight: Christina's highlights

20 July 2022

MSc Finance ambassador Christina talks us through the highlights of her MSc course, from gaining theoretical and technical knowledge, to networking with other students in Lisbon.

After completing my BSc Management with Finance degree at Warwick, my passion for finance naturally led me to embark on further studies in this subject. Throughout my undergraduate journey at Warwick I benefited from the high-quality teaching, nurturing academic environment, and also the vibrant campus life, which is why I decided to continue my master's here without hesitation.

Gaining deeper theoretical and technical knowledge

This has turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made, as I thoroughly enjoyed my time during the MSc Finance course. Not only did I strengthen my understanding of core finance principles, but I also had the opportunity to gain deeper knowledge in specialised finance areas such as behavioural finance. The lectures and seminars are intellectually stimulating since lecturers always encourage students to engage in discussions and work through the problems themselves. While this can be challenging sometimes, I do find this method of teaching a better way to develop my finance intuition, because it trains my ability to figure out what is happening "behind the scenes". In addition to theoretical training, this course also provides a lot of technical training that enables students to develop their programming skills, which gives them a competitive edge when pursuing a career in finance.

Support from CareersPlus and the Finance Programme Team

Apart from the academic side, I also received a lot of support from the dedicated careers team, who organise regular networking events and 1-to-1 coaching sessions (CV, interview prep etc.). The Finance Programme Team also arrange many fun activities throughout the year including Christmas lunch, Finance Student Ball, and a Summer BBQ, where we can take a break from our studies.

Travelling to Nova School of Business & Economics

Another highlight of the course is the international study trip to Nova School of Business & Economics in Lisbon as part of one of our core modules. I had the chance to attend guest lectures and network with students from another top European business school. Of course, I also enjoyed a lot wandering around the city, trying Portuguese delicacies and feeling the summer breeze!

To conclude, if you are a finance enthusiast and an ambitious achiever, I'm sure you will find that a lovely journey awaits you here at WBS!
