Preparing you for your next career steps

20 March 2018

There are lots of things to get involved in and lots of support available at WBS to help you achieve your career goals, says Alison Collins, Careers Manager.

Specialist careers support from the WBS CareersPlus team

Your careers support before, during, and after your masters degree at WBS will be provided by WBS CareersPlus, the business school’s specialist, in-house careers team. The careers support programme starts before you arrive at WBS, with a series of webinars over the summer to help you prepare for the early application deadlines in banking and consulting. You will meet your careers coach face-to-face in the first week of term in the welcome presentation, and we encourage all students to meet with their coach at least once every term.

CareersPlus offers unlimited careers appointments with our team of specialist career coaches, skills workshops, employer events and sector insight presentations. Our services can help you prepare for your future career, whether you are unsure of what you want to do and want to learn more, or if you are ready to apply for jobs and need help navigating the recruitment process.

UK graduate recruitment takes place very early in the autumn term, and if you plan to apply for consulting or investment banking you will need to apply for jobs in your first few weeks at WBS. To help you do this, we run a full programme of events in the first few weeks of term. This includes careers workshops on subjects like writing a great CV, preparing for interviews or building your professional network; presentations from top recruiters and industry experts; and professional skills training including case study interview prep and sales and trading simulations.

Careers and Skills across the University

While at Warwick, you will be able to attend lots of employer events and careers fairs organised by the university’s Careers and Skills department. You can also attend lectures by guest speakers from industry, take part in company-sponsored business games and get involved in some of the many business-related student societies who have strong links with top recruiters.

Online resources

We understand that you want to work at your own pace and at times that suit you. To help you do this, we offer lots of online resources that you can use whenever suits you. These include V Mock CV checking software, online video interview practice, practice psychometric tests and lots of recorded presentations that you can watch as and when you choose, on a wide range of careers subjects.

Ongoing careers support throughout and after your studies

The autumn term will be busy, and the careers support will continue throughout the year too. Towards the end of your course, to help you prepare to move into the world of work, we run events such as the annual Careers Festival and the 'Experienced Hire' careers events in May, the 'Leading through Influencing' programme for MSc Management students and the 'Business in Practice' module for MSc Business and MSc International Business students. These are practical programmes designed to help you develop the skills you need to get your career off to a flying start.
