The Warwick One World Week Conference is an exciting full-day event to which all students are invited to explore three contemporary global issues.
The conference focuses on three main topics:
- immigrants and immigration: is it time to abolish all borders?
- the financial crisis: are corporations the main cause of our failing economy?
- educational funding: Should the UN be the sole body responsible for providing basic education worldwide?
Speakers include:
Rahil Gupta, the Guardian UK
Rahil's most recent book, Enslaved: The New British Slavery, explores the role of immigration controls in enslaving people with no formal status here.
Teresa Hayter, the Campaign to Close Campsfield
Teresa is a writer and activist on migration and anti-racism issues, and has been campaigning for the closure of Campsfield since the immigration prison was opened. She is one of the authors of the No One Is Illegal manifesto.
Before that, she was active in anti-racist and other campaigns. She has written seven books, including Aid as Imperialism, The Creation of World Poverty, and Open Borders: The case Against Immigration Controls.
Brett Scott, author of The Heretic's Guide to Global Finance: Hacking the Future of Money
Meet and learn from a truly diverse group of students, and to interact and socialise with delegates from around the world.
The ticket price of £8 includes refreshments, a hot buffet lunch, a closing wine reception, goodie bags AND a full day of intellectual debate and discussion.
