Strategic Challenges of Shifting Logics – The NASA case

Join us to hear Steven Gonzalez lecture on The Strategic Challenges of
Shifting Logics - The NASA Case.

Steven is a Strategist and Change Agent with over 25 years of NASA experience in strategy development. In particular, his experience at NASA has focused on seeding and implementing innovation initiatives, identifying and creating technology collaborations in support of the NASA mission needs and investigating private/public collaborations that will benefit NASA, Industry and the university partners.

Strategy is often thought of and designed in cycles of 1-3 years. Effective strategists however are able to balance and reconcile the demands of the big picture as it has evolved over decades, with pressing operational considerations; and long term trends with short and medium-term decisions. This session discusses NASA’s development and journey of change through the evolution of human exploration of space, with particular attention on the strategic challenges that have to be addressed when the external environment changes.

These include accomplishing large-scale organizational change, developing competencies in new directions, dealing with vexing internal and external politics, and maintaining a viable position with challenging stakeholders.
