How would you describe yourself?
I am passionate, determined and resilient - qualities that have shaped both my medical career and my MBA journey. At 66, I decided it was the right time to embrace a new challenge. I wanted to stretch my thinking beyond medicine, gain a fresh perspective on leadership, and immerse myself in a community of inspiring, ambitious individuals. The Executive MBA at Warwick Business School became more than just a qualification; it was a journey of self-discovery, testing my limits while reaffirming my belief that it’s never too late to grow, adapt and make a difference.
Why did you choose Warwick Business School?
At WBS there’s culture of diversity, kindness and inclusivity which immediately drew me in. The ‘Change Maker’ ethos and the opportunity to study alongside a truly international cohort promised both professional growth and lifelong friendships.
How did you adapt when challenges arose?
Within weeks of starting, COVID-19 forced us online. Balancing virtual modules with work in the NHS - and later, caring for my unwell mother - required discipline and resilience. Support from my family, friends, and the WBS team made it possible to keep going, even if the journey took longer than planned.
What was the best part of your cohort experience?
A WhatsApp group created on day one became our lifeline, helping us stay connected during lockdown. When restrictions lifted, meeting in person for the first time felt like celebrating a shared victory.
What was your most memorable MBA moment?
The Sustainability elective in Vancouver stands out as a defining highlight. It was an intense schedule filled with thought-provoking content on global environmental and social issues, but it also brought our group together in a way no other module had. We debated ideas, collaborated under pressure, and still found time to share laughter over evening meals. The combination of academic depth, cultural immersion, and genuine camaraderie made it an experience I will carry with me for life.
What have you learned from the Executive MBA?
The MBA has completely reshaped the way I approach challenges. I’ve learned to dissect complex problems using multiple frameworks, to view them through fresh lenses, and to reframe them into opportunities for innovation. In my NHS role, these skills have translated into tangible improvements in team structures, operational processes, and recruitment strategies. Most importantly, the MBA has given me the confidence to influence change not just in my department, but across the wider healthcare system.
What’s next for you?
I’m committed to driving innovation in cancer care, with a focus on developing effective and affordable treatments that reach more patients. I want to continue combining my medical expertise with the strategic insight gained from the MBA to bridge the gap between the pharmaceutical industry and clinical practice. Beyond my professional goals, I intend to mentor future leaders in healthcare, sharing the lessons I’ve learned about resilience, adaptability and leading with compassion.
