The art of venture capital as a means of creating and growing new companies has come a long way since the days of Vanderbilt, Rockefeller and Bessemer. Today’s entrepreneurs, investors and board chairs need to have the capabilities and the charisma to take a great idea, and turn it into a profitable and rewarding business venture. Whether you’re an entrepreneur with an innovative idea, or an investor looking for your next deal, having the knowledge and tenacity to make informed decisions and build a strong team are the keys to generating enterprise value.
During this webinar, you will experience what to look for in a ‘good’ deal which works for the business and individuals, opposed to a ‘bad’ deal which bends the business away from its adopted strategy to align with the conditions of the deal.
We will look at two differing term sheets obtained from venture capital houses and debate, compare and contrast the deals – what is good, bad and indifferent – what works for the business and how negotiation produces a win-win for both business and investors.
The session will feature Professor John Lyon a seasoned entrepreneur who often raises investment and has to negotiate workable deals, and Professor Simon Barnes, a seasoned venture capitalist, both Professors of Practice at Warwick Business School who deliver executive teaching on programmes, including the Warwick MBA. Together they will act as entrepreneur and VC investor to eventually arrive at a deal that works; but in getting there, talk through the issues and concerns… a deal that works should work for all parties!
Following the session, John and Simon will debrief and host a Q&A with the audience.
