How the Global Banking programme has transformed my career
Global Central Banking and Financial Regulation qualifications participant Sophia Georghiou shares her experience of the programme and how it has benefitted her career.
I chose to pursue the Global Central Banking & Financial Regulations Qualifications because of the comprehensive insights it offers into the banking sector and the broader economy. Coming from an undergraduate background in history, my knowledge of banking, finance, and economics was quite limited before starting the course. However, I quickly discovered that the programme is designed to be accessible and achievable, even for those with no prior experience in these areas.
Since starting the programme, I have undertaken a variety of modules, ranging from ethics and behavioural finance to supervision and macroeconomics. This comprehensive curriculum has equipped me with a broad knowledge base that I now actively apply in my professional life.
Having worked in prudential regulation at the Bank of England for just over two years, the insights I gained through the course have significantly enhanced my contextual understanding of the documents and data I analyse daily. Moreover, the programme boosted my confidence during my early days on the job, empowering me to speak up and take the lead, knowing I had a solid grasp of the concepts at play.
The course’s flexibility ensures a manageable and enjoyable balance between studying and working, with supportive and adaptable instructors and well-structured class schedules. I would wholeheartedly recommend this programme to anyone looking to deepen their understanding of the financial sector.
As I mentioned earlier, I have undertaken a variety of modules so far, but the Financial Conduct, Leadership and Ethics module truly stood out to me. This was because it highlighted the importance of responsible decision-making in the financial sector, emphasised the role of trust and accountability in building lasting professional relationships, and deepened my understanding of the broader social impact of financial decisions.
