Shining light: Shweta Singh has been recognised as one of the top 50 women impacting the UK tech scene
On the opening day of London Tech Week 2025 Warwick Business School's Shweta Singh has been named as one of the most influential women in technology by InspiringFifty UK and EQL:HER.
Dr Singh, Assistant Professor of Information Systems and Management, is one of just two academics on the list celebrating the top 50 women making a significant impact in technology across the UK.
It was selected by a judging panel that included the CEOs of Charlotte Tilbury, the Royal Academy of Engineering, and Mumsnet.
Reflecting on the award, Dr Singh said: “This recognition reflects a journey that has not always been straightforward, from navigating academia as an immigrant woman of colour, to working at the intersection of AI, ethics, and social justice. It’s about asking not just what AI can do, but what it should do, and for whom.”
She joins a cohort of winners that also features Melanie Dawes (CEO of Ofcom), Yuelin Li (Meta’s Director of Product Management), Dame Carolyn McCall (CEO of ITV), and Cindy Hoots (Chief Information Officer at AstraZeneca).
Dr Singh’s work focuses on developing next-generation AI that is explainable, fair, and accountable. She studies how technology can be designed to reduce bias, foster inclusion, and serve the public good.
Her research also explores how digital platforms, IT outsourcing, and the sharing economy create value in business and society, with findings published in leading journals such as Information Systems Research.
Dr Singh’s research challenges assumptions about the societal impact of intelligent systems and shapes debates on AI governance, accountability, and public policy.
She is currently contributing to the UK Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) brief on Artificial Intelligence and serves on the Advisory Board of the AI-based online retail company Love the Sales.
The InspiringFifty UK programme is part of EQL:HER, a global network and event series dedicated to achieving gender balance in the technology sector.
EQL:HER creates spaces for women to connect, share, and inspire one another while fostering opportunities for women to drive meaningful change in technology.
