How Big Tech is Tackling Racism and Ethical Issues

Warwick Technology Professional Network speaker series

As the structural and entrenched racism of our political, social and economic systems, ever present but rarely addressed on a mass scale, was brought to the forefront of the discussion, society looked to our Governments and our largest private companies on what can and should be done.

From the A level results and facial recognition algorithms, to tools to help screen candidates for job applications, there are many concerns about how the latest technologies are being applied and the various issues they are causing. There are a multitude of data bias and privacy problems that lead to ethical and discrimination issues, which the big technology firms must take ownership and look to provide the guidelines and processes to mitigate them.

In our speaker series, our next event we will look at what Big Tech has been doing to try and combat these issues. This problem is not addressed solely by opening chequebooks, multiple facets need to be addressed: recruitment; leadership; culture; and the products and services they provide, to name but a few.

We have speakers from some of the biggest technology firms as well as from the talent area to discuss how the industry is adapting to the real issues of AI ethics and the need for responsible AI capabilities within the organisations, to ensure both employees and customers are satisfied that these issues are being addresses adequately.Andy Pardoe, a practitioner of scaled AI deployments, will be hosting the event and leading a panel discussion, which will open up with questions from the audience. Please join us and our speakers to hear what some Big Tech firms are doing, and what we can be doing to combat these issues.
